In morning we leave on bus from Lisbon and drive north along the coast. Our first stop is the historic walled fortress city of Obidos. Later we make our way to the Alcobaca Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  After exploring the Monastery, we make our way along the rocky cliffs to the town of Nazaré (surfers paradise – 100 foot waves). Here we enjoyed some time on your own to explore and enjoy lunch.

After lunch, we continue our drive north to Figueira da Foz to check into our hotel located along the beach. Enjoyed a home hosted dinner with childhood from of our guide Helena.

My Observations

Have I said, our days are full?  The schedule doesn’t look that way – but...? Almost 1,500 photos today.  Much to recollect when I do the reviews – in fact, probably close to 6 times before using for this journal.  This time, I am exceeding my initial self-imposed limit of maybe 20, for journal viewers awareness.  This day I find, you shoulda been there.  We saw...too many things to try and explain.

The home visit was very special.  Can you imagine inviting 24 people, you don’t know, to have a sit-down dinner of food you prepared.  Also to be willing to have them examine all nooks and crannies of the rooms.  Then keep a cheery face for more than 2 hours?  Can you say SAINTS!

I won’t write much,  Instead rely on the web links and photos I selected for today’s album.

Here are internet links for highlights:

Photo 1.  Old trolleys – still a good ride.

Photo 2.  The last ride some will take.  The funeral processions follows this car to the cemetery which is normally not too far a walk.

Photo 3.  Arriving in Figueira da Foz just in time for sunset – a nice ride for us - beautiful    (-:
